Mark was the (last known) boss of Valcen's human incarnation in 2008. He knew him as Anton Lusk. When he leaves behind all pretense of a human life at the beginning of the Satellites chapter of A Thread Between The Stars, Valcen briefly considers contacting Mark, but opts against it, assuming the explanatory gulf too great.
